eOFW.Net on Inquirer.Net

It’s always good getting a call from Erwin Oliva of the Inquirer… as long as you’re not doing anything on the bad side of the news, that is.

I got a call from fellow-Baguio boy Erwin this afternoon. He received the eOFW email survey and wanted to know more about eOFW.Net. I first met Erwin when he interviewed me about the thesis I did on m-commerce for microfinance.

I was surprised at the speed of publishing the article (I was expecting it to come out tomorrow pa). Erwin published within 4 hours of my interview. That’s what we call Breaking News!

Here’s the article Erwin published on Inquirer, 22 January 2008:

MANILA, Philippines — A Filipino tech blogger has launched a blog that is dedicated to helping overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to remotely manage their finances and communicate with their families back home.

“It hopes to bring together information to help OFWs manage their finances. It will contain news and information, such as how they can pay their Meralco (Manila Electric Co.) electric bill remotely,” said founder Edwin “Ka Edong” Soriano who has been blogging for years.

The idea to start the eOFW blog was born two years ago but only materialized this year after Soriano found a Singaporean partner.

      Hello Ka Edong,

My name is Joahnna, I am a Filipina currently residing in France. I would like to introduce you to jooce.com , an new platform that offers “cyber nomads” a virtual desktop that can be accessed from any computer, anywhere.

Currently, jooce is available in Tagalog and is being introduced in the Philippines hoping to allow internet users who either do not own their own computers or who move a lot from one computer to another, to easily organize their digital lives.

I found you through Pinoy Tech Blog and I would love to hear your thoughts about it… If you have questions or would like more information, I can email you press releases, photos, etc.

I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!

      Cheers,
      joahnna
