Google Bionic Implants

by ka edong on April 4, 2007

I’m at my relatives’ home where they have wireless broadband Internet. There are 4 computers in the home (a desktop, 2 of their laptops and my laptop).

In our conversations after meals, we’d find ourselves discussing stuff from TV shows or movies or news or weather while checking our emails online. Then spontaneously there would be a question and it would be nice to have an immediate answer.

Like, “Wasn’t there a tsunami somewhere today?” or “What advertisement was filmed at the Hong Fat restaurant at Dundas?”

How do we get the answer? We Google it.

Nothing very odd about that, I’m sure you’d say. I guess it just strikes me how Google is so much part of our conversation, part of our lives.

It came out more distinctly in this home because Google was at our fingertips anywhere we were (dining table, sala, garage) during most of our conversations.

One day soon before my kids turn teenagers, we’ll have Google in our pockets — or on our wrist, or in our ears or in our contact lenses –  ready to give us ANY information we want when we want it.

Agree! Google will be everywhere, everytime and everyhow :-)

Notwithstanding the accessibility and advantages of being online always, I still hope that we (and the next generations) see the benefits of the old ways. Nothing beats knowledge stored in the gray matter between the ears.

Regards, Ka Edong. Enjoy your vacation (.’_’.)
