Cignal Digital TV – Satellite TV and in hi-definition too… soon

April 15th, 2009 | by ka edong |

Cignal Digital TV is the latest satellite TV service by Mediascape, Inc. (http://www.mediascape.com.ph), same company that delivers myTV (TV in you mobile phone).

Cignal TV Satellite Dish

Cignal TV Satellite Dish

After the jump, some first impressions and a lot of information from the flyers.
AND a video interview with a Cignal representative. Thanks to Bernie for the video interview!

First impressions

Digital TV at P390 per month? Not bad, compared to around P500 for cable TV.

Uptake of the service will depend on a couple of factors: Quality, Delivery, Price (QDP).

I don’t know yet about the Q and the D, but I do have some details about the service offering and the Price. I can imagine that there’ll be a huge queue for installations, especially with the huge satellite dish that has to be installed accurately facing a specific compass direction.

The service is currently delivering plain-definition TV. By June 2009, high-definition TV (HDTV) will be available.

Channels currently available:

  • ABS-CBN
  • GMA

eeekkk. just seeing that satellite dish made me squirm. any chance testing it while it was raining? ’cause that looks pretty much the same as the one here in malaysia called astro and it’s pretty useless once it starts to rain.

imagine getting to the last part of the movie and it starts to rain and kaboom, no signal.

Just got my connection yesterday the reception was very clear on my LCD TV even it was drisling last night. So far it was excellent.Hopefully it will continue and maybe add National Gegraphic and Descovery even in prepaid package.. Thank you Cignal Digital TV

squirm indeed! it’s going to be a tedious installation.

I’m told it needs “line of sight”, but it’s odd that a satellite on the floor was able to pick-up the signal. I think they make it point to a “cloud” in pampanga, not necessarily line of sight with the actual antennas.

I think I’d be better off with Dream Sat TV. I could stand crappy internet connection but my whole family would go berserk once the TV goes screwy.

too bad the channel listing is so limited. If there were atleast NatGeo and Discovery channel this would be more tempting… Cinemax wouldn’t hurt either.

@mike, agree. I heard similar feedback. Initial list pa lang daw yung channels. Their official launch is August pa pala. And by that time, they say, more channels and Hi-definition available na.

wow! cignal is really clear even if it’s raining. galing! and i’ve heard that it is better pa daw sa Dream Sat (in terms of signal ha! not in channel line-up). Kaya lang mas maganda sana kung mas marami ang channel gaya ng Discovery and replace PBO and Viva Cinema with Cinemax and Star Movies or add both channels nalang plus additional sports channel. Ok lang kahit magdadag ng bayad. Mag-subsribe na rin kayo!

With the withdrawal by dream of the popular channels like espn, star sports and the bbc plus some of the movie channels – dreams package is 1) very unattractive and 2) dream has pissed a lot of peopl off by the way they yanked the popular channels. This has created a huge opportunity for Cignal to move in and satisfy lots of subscribers with a wider range of channels, better quality, and a reliable service – I hope they cream Dream!

cignal is advertising in tv commercial presently… for those who want it, you buy it “baka magmahal pa presyo nyan”!
But don’t forget to review the product you like before you buy.
My concern is about the box? My tv has 2 HDMI, 1 DVI and 1 RCA set for Audio L/R and Video input, My Dream sat is only using A/V RCA, xempre dapat this box is using HDMI/DVI output going to my HDTV HDMI/DVI input to be called digital High Definition: can somebody using it tell me more about the box? Thanks

for some who already using it: is the local channel like GMA7 and ABS-CBN2 converted in HD 1080? it is not HD Channel like Balls or Discovery HD but the box should convert it to HD 1080 so it will be more sharper vid. and clear.

Channel preference is a subjective matter. The channels you don’t like may have better appeal to others while those that you prefer may not be interesting to them. DTH companies in the Philippines should do what SKYCable has started- that is offer programming “a la carte” so we subscribers have to pay only for the channels we like and would actually watch rather than have a hundred channels which we don’t have the time to really view in our lifetime.

      Here’s the contact number (918) 427-7846 / (907) 507-7777.

Napaka inefficient ng cignal employees..wala silang urgency sa pag didispatch ng application..be sure to contact cignal and remind them of your schedule kasi kung aasa ka sa kanila e kung kelan na lang nila maisingit yung schedule mo..walang clear system ng operation tapos itatanggi ng employee nila na meron kayong agreed time of connection…tsk tsk tsk nakakadismaya..

I’m in Cebu and i availed this unit and made advance full payment last Oct 30, 2009 and until now i haven’t received any feedback from them, everytime i made a followup they always told me out of stock daw. I’m very frustated since the PPV for pacquiao-cotto is already 5 more days to go…..

did you get it from Akromont Marketing (032 – 3437475)? Cause I got my cignal set from them, and am very satisfied with their service. Look for Karen. Paid 350 for Pacquiao PPV last Tuesday, and it was activated today. :)

Cignal Cable TV tech support is considered INFERIOR TO ITS HIGHEST DEGREE! The contact numbers flashed on their website are always busy/out-of-reach. If you can get through, the tech support representative will intentionally drop your call.

I applied for Cignal TV last April due to Pacquiao-Hatton fight (it was free at that time). After installation (which they did not coordinate with me beforehand), they left the co-ax cable hanging though my window (if I used my own cable – there was no reception on my TV). It took them one week before they went back and fixed it. If I had not demanded Cignal to either fix my cable reception or remove the dish and refund my money – they would have never visited my house again.

Now, for the Pacquiao-Cotto fight, I paid 350 pesos last Nov 5 (now its Nov 10) and they have not activated the PPV channel since their numbers are always busy/unattended to accept our calls.

If you have other options, go get another cable TV. Just watch Pacquiao bouts in theaters.

In fairness, Cign@l’s PPV was only P350 compared to Dre@m’s P650. It took only minutes for them to activate my PPV event purchase because my contact has a SMART dealer/retailer SIM card. My whole family (and practically the whole neighborhood) enjoyed the Pacquiao-Cotto PPV broadcast thru Cign@l in my house.

@jay ar: May promo ang Cignal ngayon 2.7K lang isang set (all-in) w/ 3-months load na kaya kunin mo na lang satellite dish dahil malaki ito at better quality dahil maganda ang supports compared to what you may have now. Pwede mo itong ibenta na mas mahal later on. He..he… Until 30 November lang pala ang promo.

I really like the signal and clarity only one thing is that no national geographic channel or discovery channel on cignal digital subscriber. Its really important among others to be able our kids to learn and discovers not taught in school. The monthly fee is so cheap, I hope they will put discovery or national geographic channel on thier programs on digital cignal subscriber and not on hd only.

If you avail their HD package you’ll get National Geographic channel in High Def..they have 7 HD channels currently available..

subscriber ako ng cignal..i subscribe to them not just because of the tv channels but to radio stations as well, because almost all radio stations here in our place in dumaguete has the same “masa” market. i hope they can come up with a variety of radio stations also, particularly jazz station..to cignal management, please pay attention to this..

While they’re at it, might as well add BBC World Service and CNN Radio as alternate audio tracks of the video channels since the Cign@l broadcast system is capable of this anyway.

Cignal is good because it’s powered by SMART and PLDT. But unfortunately, I was disappointed with my application kasi nung mag-install na sila eh di daw pwede dahil may nakaharang na dalawang puno. If CIGNAL has a powerful and hi-tech equipments kahit gaano kadaming puno kaya mag-penetrate ang signal.

I am really pissed at CIGNAL’s services. they stood me up twice now. First one was last monday, so i said resched it on Saturday so i will be there. Yesterday December 5, I was scheduled to have cignal installed at 9AM!!! and guess what they never came. i followed up on them almost 10 times yesterday, they give me this ETA, 10am, 11am, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm, 8pm. all of them are BS, they never came. and so they said they’ll come today at 9am and guess what? its already 10am and they are still no where in sight, no calls, no updates from them. THIS PURE BS SERVICE!!!

service talaga ang problema ng cignal kailangan pa ifax pag magpa activate then pagkatapos ifax di pala nila ina activate kailangan pa followup , almost 1 week ako nag hintay bago maactivate then pag may problema di mo pwede ipa suspend ang load kaya nauubos yong load kahit failure ng unit nila , wala sila direct contact o hotline sa metro manila o kung mayron man hindi mag reply o di ma kontak grabe pangit servisyo, tiyaga lang ko kasi may nba live, plano ko balik sa dreamtv, pag may problema marami ka pa daanan di gaya dreamtv na diritso sa operator pag may problema technical
