Cignal Digital TV – Satellite TV and in hi-definition too… soon

by ka edong on April 15, 2009

Cignal Digital TV is the latest satellite TV service by Mediascape, Inc. (http://www.mediascape.com.ph), same company that delivers myTV (TV in you mobile phone).

Cignal TV Satellite Dish

Cignal TV Satellite Dish

After the jump, some first impressions and a lot of information from the flyers.
AND a video interview with a Cignal representative. Thanks to Bernie for the video interview!

First impressions

Digital TV at P390 per month? Not bad, compared to around P500 for cable TV.

Uptake of the service will depend on a couple of factors: Quality, Delivery, Price (QDP).

I don’t know yet about the Q and the D, but I do have some details about the service offering and the Price. I can imagine that there’ll be a huge queue for installations, especially with the huge satellite dish that has to be installed accurately facing a specific compass direction.

The service is currently delivering plain-definition TV. By June 2009, high-definition TV (HDTV) will be available.

Channels currently available:

  • ABS-CBN
  • GMA
  • 5 TV
  • Q TV

eeekkk. just seeing that satellite dish made me squirm. any chance testing it while it was raining? ’cause that looks pretty much the same as the one here in malaysia called astro and it’s pretty useless once it starts to rain.

imagine getting to the last part of the movie and it starts to rain and kaboom, no signal.

ka edong April 15, 2009 at 10:16 am

squirm indeed! it’s going to be a tedious installation.

I’m told it needs “line of sight”, but it’s odd that a satellite on the floor was able to pick-up the signal. I think they make it point to a “cloud” in pampanga, not necessarily line of sight with the actual antennas.

I think I’d be better off with Dream Sat TV. I could stand crappy internet connection but my whole family would go berserk once the TV goes screwy.

@jhay, do you have dream sattelite tv? how is it naman?

esti April 15, 2009 at 3:56 pm

mike April 16, 2009 at 12:50 am

too bad the channel listing is so limited. If there were atleast NatGeo and Discovery channel this would be more tempting… Cinemax wouldn’t hurt either.

ka edong April 16, 2009 at 12:57 am

@esti, syado kang nervious-o. naka-ilang kape ka? :D
@mike, agree. I heard similar feedback. Initial list pa lang daw yung channels. Their official launch is August pa pala. And by that time, they say, more channels and Hi-definition available na.

Philippine Love & Relationships Forum April 21, 2009 at 3:57 pm

Michael April 25, 2009 at 5:42 pm

wow! cignal is really clear even if it’s raining. galing! and i’ve heard that it is better pa daw sa Dream Sat (in terms of signal ha! not in channel line-up). Kaya lang mas maganda sana kung mas marami ang channel gaya ng Discovery and replace PBO and Viva Cinema with Cinemax and Star Movies or add both channels nalang plus additional sports channel. Ok lang kahit magdadag ng bayad. Mag-subsribe na rin kayo!

lance April 29, 2009 at 3:59 pm

kailan kaya magiging available yan dito sa batangas city?

jensen May 10, 2009 at 11:35 am

Dennis Melgar May 12, 2009 at 9:16 am

Bwisit itong taga-Dream, wala na lahat yung mga prime channels, iniwan na lang yung free-to-air channels..i’ll bet, Dream satellite TV ay mahirapang makaabot end of this year..siguradong masara na ‘to.

Dennis Melgar May 12, 2009 at 9:27 am

tony b May 13, 2009 at 3:13 pm

With the withdrawal by dream of the popular channels like espn, star sports and the bbc plus some of the movie channels – dreams package is 1) very unattractive and 2) dream has pissed a lot of peopl off by the way they yanked the popular channels. This has created a huge opportunity for Cignal to move in and satisfy lots of subscribers with a wider range of channels, better quality, and a reliable service – I hope they cream Dream!

josh May 15, 2009 at 10:43 am

is cignal tv nakaturo din sya sa AGUILA 2 KU Band

josh May 15, 2009 at 10:47 am

Ann May 21, 2009 at 8:38 pm

killerbee June 1, 2009 at 9:31 pm

waaa, peke pla nbili k s raon….

Dennis Melgar June 2, 2009 at 11:30 am

even then, with the kind of programming Dream is providing to their supposedly customers, wala na ring kakagat sa Dream ngayon kahit binaba na nila ang susbscription fee..halos lahat free-to-air channels ang ginamit ngayon ng Dream, hanap na lang tayo ng iba.

Dennis June 2, 2009 at 5:03 pm

I’ll get my cignal installed this saturday. Just hoping though that they’ll add espn and star sports para masaya lahat, hahaha!

mic baril June 6, 2009 at 3:21 pm

ksi sa dream may bayad?

ariel September 23, 2009 at 6:54 pm

ariel September 23, 2009 at 6:59 pm

cignal is advertising in tv commercial presently… for those who want it, you buy it “baka magmahal pa presyo nyan”!
But don’t forget to review the product you like before you buy.
My concern is about the box? My tv has 2 HDMI, 1 DVI and 1 RCA set for Audio L/R and Video input, My Dream sat is only using A/V RCA, xempre dapat this box is using HDMI/DVI output going to my HDTV HDMI/DVI input to be called digital High Definition: can somebody using it tell me more about the box? Thanks

Ringo R. Reyes October 3, 2009 at 1:38 am

for some who already using it: is the local channel like GMA7 and ABS-CBN2 converted in HD 1080? it is not HD Channel like Balls or Discovery HD but the box should convert it to HD 1080 so it will be more sharper vid. and clear.

Nico October 8, 2009 at 4:55 pm

deckerd501 October 11, 2009 at 7:27 pm

Actually Cignal have an october promo..starting october 9, 2009, you can subscribe for the Standard Definition package for only 2890(initial payment) plus they now offer prepaid.. for the HD they will be offering 8 HD channels starting Oct 9, 2009..ESPN, Star Sports, Star Movies, HBO, Sonny Entertainment, FX, Play house Disney, and History Channel..for only Php 990..but this will only cover for the month of october, and then we’ll see if they will get the Pacquiao fight and veiw for free this Nov 15, 2009.
