Wi-Tribe: Wi’ve got 4G WiMax via Liberty

January 28th, 2010 | by ka edong |

Looks like Liberty is in town. Saw this at the Petron station in Buendia cor. Makati Ave. They call it Wi-Tribe (Pronounced “wye tribe”). And they call it a 4G (4th generation) broadband technology.

Wi-Tribe WiMax Modem - nomadic (fixed mobile)

Some quick bullets:

  • I remember my friends at Intel being part of the WiMax testing back in circa 2005/2006 . Glad to know it’s now reaching the masses … slowly but surely.
  • I hear they’re offering trial accounts in selected areas
  • I hear (again) that they’re giving a guarantee of internet speeds of 2Mbps at P999 . That’s fast and cheap.
  • The modem is rather big. It’s nomadic — meaning it can be transferred from one place to another, but it will not work *while* it’s being moved.

Wi-tribe remove the reduced lock in period from their official website. It used to say “24 month lock in or pay an extra P 5,000 for a 12-month lock in period and P 2,500 for a 6-month lock-in period”. Now its gone.

The unofficial website was taken down. Why?

      see my blog for details

that is why we consumers should stand and fight for our right that new technologies or offerings like this wi-tribe should be money-back-guaranteed. we should never patronize this kind of anomalous offering that tie us down in a lock-in period in their product. if they stand by their own product, we consumers should be given the chance to validate their claims at no cost. otherwise, we don’t patronize. what do you think? Let us unite once and for all or suffer the consequence of being duped again. Remember the smartBro, Tattoo and Sun modems? They should’ve not advertised that the internet speed was fast. All of them are really not. Advertisers should be penalized for these claims. Let us continue this thread for them to hear us – after all it’s our money against their so-called technology.

forums are good sites for scouring comments on a particular product. wi-tribe should hold their own side of the deal and give the speeds their ads are saying. I was curious with their ads and good thing that i read the negative comments of users. And for me, the lock in period is full of crap.
