What is a 4-D Theater?
May 20th, 2007 | by ka edong |Have you heard of the Enchanted Kingdom 4-D movie “Pirates”? Do you wonder what a 4-D theater is?
I’ve been to a couple at Universal Studios and was fascinated! So let me describe to you the experience.
First, you get a pair of glasses to watch the movie. The images on the screen + the glasses make the image appear 3 dimensional. In some scenes, you’ll see characters “in-your-face” as if a dragon or a snake or a mummy was just 2 feet away!
Second, the sound is magnificent! You’ll hear helicopters hovering above you, you’ll hear gunshots from behind you, you’ll *feel* the stomping feet of a dinosaur almost hitting you on your head!
Third, you’ll have seats that shake rattle and roll in sync with the movie. So in some movie scenes where you are flying around, you’ll feel as if you’re falling forward (seat leans forward) or flying upward (seat leans backward) or get hit by a train from the side (seat shakes).
Fourth, you’ll have some more tactile sensations. In one scene where there were beetles crawling on the screen (scene from The Mummy), I almost jumped out of my seat when I felt creepy crawlies on my ancles and legs! They turned out to be bursts of plain-air. Sometimes the bursts of air are behind your neck. There are also scenes where a character (e.g. Shrek) sneezes on you and you *feel* his laway! That’s actually a spray of plain-water on your face.
That’s what a 4-D Theater is like. Kewl huh? It’s a fun experience. Try it at Enchanted Kingdom!
